Treatment Options for Children and Teens

Valle Vista Health System, located in Greenwood, Indiana, provides various mental health treatment options for children and teens ages 12-18 years old.

Children and teens experiencing emotional distress and behavioral issues require specialized care. Since they are going through a constant state of development during this time, both mentally and physically, teens need the kind of treatment that recognizes the complexity of their current state.

Our acute mental health treatment for teens, adolescent outpatient mental health programs and girls residential treatment programs all focus on identifying immediate issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma and other disorders. We provide education for both patients and caregivers so they can learn ways to cope.

The goal for all of our programs is to get young patients back on track so they can begin to refocus on healthy relationships at school, at home and in their communities.

Our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services

Child & Adolescent Inpatient Treatment

Our acute adolescent inpatient mental health services focus on stabilizing acute teenage psychiatric issues to allow a quick and smooth transition to a lower level of care.

Our adolescent psychiatric and inpatient child psychiatric team knows this can be a stressful time for you, and we put the needs of the child — and their families — first. Patients are separated by age and gender at our treatment center to provide a more comfortable, supportive environment.

Some components for our children and teen inpatient treatment include:

  • 24-hour nursing care
  • Daily visits with a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner
  • Individual, group and family counseling as ordered by the psychiatrist or nurse practitioner
  • Recreational therapy designed for children and adolescents, with a licensed recreational therapist
  • Medication management by board-certified psychiatrists and nurse practitioners

Child & Adolescent IOP

The adolescent IOP for mental illness and behavioral health from Valle Vista Health System provides child and adolescent psychiatry services on an outpatient basis for patients 12-18 years old.

Our Individualized Intensive Outpatient Therapy is a level of care for youth who don’t need 24-hour care or may need to “step down” as a transition from a hospital setting. Patients typically remain in the part-time day program for two weeks.

Some components of our children and teen IOP include:

  • Meetings Monday through Friday, typically 9 a.m to 4 p.m., but hours can vary
  • Individual, group and family counseling as ordered by the psychiatrist or nurse practitioner
